Tensile Structures

We have been involved with the design of tensile structures since the mid-1980s. Today, with the aid of computers and associated developments in computer software, the most diverse surface forms can be realised with lightweight roof structures and materials.

Membranstresses

The very low material weight of plastic or glass fibre sheets (approx. 1 – 1.5 kg/m2) makes it possible to cover large spaces with economically constructed supporting frames. Today’s tensile structure materials can be manufactured with a life-span of several decades. Special coatings such as Teflon protect against the harmful effects of the sun’s rays and surface contamination. Depending on requirements, roof structures can be manufactured in several layers and thermally insulated. Due to the inherent flexibility of the material these structures are less susceptible to damage by earthquakes and have a greater capacity for absorbing structural movement.

Easy software

During manufacture it is possible to decorate the surface of tensile fabrics with advertising, logos and other eye-catching features.

Preparation of the structural design, which includes formfinding of the membrane surface, structural calculation of various loads as well as precise drawings of any required templates is carried out with ‘EASY’, a programme by the German company Technet which is recognized and used throughout the world.

Flow simulationIn tensile structures, stresses and tensions caused by the wind are influenced by surface shape. In the interest of finding the most economical solutions it is necessary to test designed surfaces with the Budapest University of Technology and Economics (BME) Department of Fluid Mechanics wind tunnel facility. Simulated measurements are made using the department's FLUENT programme, which is used around the world for the aerodynamic design of vehicles.

Manufacture and on-site erection of our tensile structure designs is carried out by reliable and experienced approved contractors, ensuring quality workmanship and expertise. During manufacture the application of a strict quality control system contributes to the long building life of completed tensile structures.
